When and Where is CougarHacks?

CougarHacks 2024 will take place from November 23rd to 24th. Check-in starts at 9:00 AM on November 23rd at Caldwell University, located at 120 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell, New Jersey 07006.

Who is eligible to sign up and compete?

Anyone who is a high school, undergraduate, or graduate student at any college in the U.S., or a recent graduate (within the past 12 months), is eligible to participate.

Do I have to register as part of a team?

No! You can register with your friends and compete as a team, or register solo and find a team at the event.

Can I use any previous projects?

No, the purpose of a hackathon is to create something new and original in a short time frame. However, you can use open-source frameworks and third-party APIs, as long as they are properly cited.

Will food and entertainment be provided?

Yes, absolutely! Attendees will enjoy free food, free swag from sponsors, and a variety of fun events. Get ready for a full weekend of fun activities!

Will there be prizes?

Yes! Top teams will be awarded a range of prizes, including cash prizes from Caldwell University and other special prizes from sponsors.

Do I have to pay to compete?

No, there is no fee to sign up or participate in CougarHacks. It is completely free!

How many students can register?

We accept as many students as apply, and we do not limit participation based on registration.

Is parking available?

Yes, free overnight parking is available at the event. The parking lot is located at 120 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell, NJ.

What should I bring?

You will need a valid form of ID, your laptop, charger, and any other hardware you'll need for your project.

What shouldn’t I bring?

Please refrain from bringing non-portable hardware (like desktop computers). Weapons, alcohol, and drugs are strictly prohibited, and if it can't be taken on a flight, please don’t bring it!

Do you offer travel reimbursements?

Unfortunately, we do not offer travel reimbursements at this time.

How many people can be in one team?

Each team can have up to four people.

Can a member of my team attend virtually?

No, all team members are required to attend the event in person and check in at the start of the event.

Do we need to stay the entire event?

While you’re not required to stay for the entire duration, you must be present at check-in and during the judging if you plan to submit a project.

How long does the event last?

CougarHacks lasts for **36 hours** from November 23rd to November 24th.

When do I need to submit my project?

You must submit your project by **10:00 PM** on **Sunday, Nov 24th**.

Where do I submit my project?

A link to submit your project will be provided after check-in.

What types of projects are allowed?

We accept all types of projects that align with our theme! Whether it’s a website, mobile app, or IoT project, we welcome them all!

Can I still participate if I don’t have programming experience?

Definitely! CougarHacks is a great opportunity for learning. We encourage people of all skill levels to attend. If you don't plan on submitting a project, you can attend our workshops to learn new skills!

Do I need to be a programmer to compete?

No, not at all! Diverse teams are the most successful. Whether you're a business major, artist, or coder, there’s a place for you in our event!
